Wangaratta’s Mitchell Avenue Splash Park is the perfect place to take the kids during the warmer months.

The playground itself is large, well shaded and fully fenced offering a great place to let the kids run wild, but if the sun is even looking like being out good luck keeping them away from the splash park.

Eldorado

Eldorado Dredge

As what was once one of the largest dredges in the Southern Hemisphere - this was a floating monster weighing 2,142 tons and pulling the third most power from the State Electricity Grid after Melbourne and Geelong. In its 18 years of operation the dredge produced 70,664 ounces of gold and 1,383 tons of tin concentrate.

You can visit the dredge in its final resting place, located on the outskirts of the town on the El Dorado-Byawatha Road.

McEvoy Tavern

Named after the last mine to operate in the area, the McEvoy Tavern was created as the smallest pub in Victoria in 1991 when it was sectioned off from the general store. Many of the locals use the tavern as a gathering point to meet up with each other, catch up on local news, and wind down after a hard day’s work. It’s also popular with tourists who have come to explore the area for its mining history, bushland walks, local arts and crafts, gems and crystals.
